Information for Parents of Students Sent Home with COVID-19 Symptoms
If your child has been advised staff at Joseph Leckie Academy that they are unwell and have the following symptoms:
New Persistent Cough This means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual) |
Loss Taste or Smell This means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal |
Temperature This means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back |

This document provides details of why your child has been sent home, the links to the guidance above informs you of what action you school be taking if your child is suspected as being symptomatic of COVID19. This includes that your child should be tested, and results advised to the Academy. The additional symptoms listed above have been identified by our Public Health advisor as possible symptoms in children/school age pupils for Covid 19, and these have currently been included as a precaution.
- If your child has been Sick or had Diarrhoea, they should remain off school for 48 hrs minimum (24hrs after the last time they were sick or had Diarrhoea).
- We recommend that should your child present with a Temperature or Sore Throat, you should contact your Doctor of call NHS 111 for further advice.
In all cases if you think your child is unwell please seek medical advice.
Absence from the Academy
The Academy will record your child’s absence for today, please contact the Academy and advise what medical advice you have been given and how long your child will remain off school following medical advice or Covid isolation. This can be done by calling the main Academy number 01922 721071 and choosing option 1, or using the parent app ‘My ED’ which is accessible via the Academy website.
