Year 7 & 8

For your artwork you will need to complete the  Artist in a box project, as explained in the emailed to you file. There are images and examples of what you are expected to produce.

The box should be no bigger than a shoe box and you should decorate  both the interior and exterior in the style of your chosen artist.

You need to research into the artists life and artwork.

This is a 6 week project and needs to be completed to the highest possible  standard, have fun!

Update: 12/05/2020 - Curriculum statement for 01/06/20 - 17/06/20

Years 7 and 8

Both year 7 and year 8 will be looking at Putting on a Performance this half term. They will be given the choice of choosing a production or working from some given examples. Once they have chosen a production they will explore all the different tasks that go in to producing a full scale production. This will include casting it, designing the set and costume, promoting it then finally reviewing a potential performance.

The aim of the tasks is to highlight the work and different skills that are needed when planning a production.

Years 9 and 10

Both years 9 and 10 will be looking at a key part of the GCSE assessment, live theatre evaluation. Section B of the written exam, that the students will sit in year 11, will require them to answer two questions on a piece of theatre that they have seen. We have been given a link to a recording of the play “Teechers” performed by a professional group, Blackeyed Theatre Company. Students will be required to watch this performance* and make notes on the acting and design elements they see. Once this has been watched they will need to organise their notes and then create a separate set of notes of no more than 500 words. These 500 words are notes they will be able to take in to the exam.

The students will then have examples of questions from exam papers that they will need to answer. They will also have a copy of the marking criteria so that they can assess their own work.

*If they cannot access this performance they can watch another on YouTube by searching live theatre or National Theatre Live or The Show Must Go On. As a last resort they could use a film but this will not be allowed for the final exam.

Year 7

Over this half term year 7 will be looking at the history of drama and theatre with regards to how and why masks were used in early theatre. Students will start by looking at the characters that they feel are shown through masks then move on to creating their own character. Once this is done they will design and make their own mask to use in a performance.

Year 8

Over this half term year 8 will be looking at their use of voice when performing a script. They will start by exploring their own voice and how it works, being sure to make it clear when performing. They will then move on to a selection of different scripts over the weeks with thought given as to how they would perform them. The work is finished with students working on their own scripted performance either by themselves or with another person.

Years 9 and 10

Over this half term years 9 and 10 will be looking at how they will be using subject specific drama terminology in their written work. This is a very important piece of work as it will prepare them for the written tasks in the coursework and written exam. In order to achieve the higher marks for GCSE drama students need to use key drama words in their work correctly. Students have a document to complete that has a different focus each week. They will look at drama techniques, styles, technical words for lighting, sound and set as well as other key words.

Year 7 – Islam. Complete booklets in KS3 folder on Islam

Year 9 – Students should continue to with and from the Islam booklets given.   They have also been added to SharePoint if they have been misplaced.

Year 10  – Peace and conflict.  They should be able to access ZigZag resources on SharePoint and should work through them. all information and question are included.  They should locate Theme D -  Religion, Peace and Conflict. 

Year 11 – All students have revision guide and booklets as well as text books in some cases.  They should continue to work through them and exam questions that have also been issued.  All resources are also added on to SharePoint for reference if they have misplaced any.

Year 9 – Families and households. 

Year 10 – All students have been given revision guides so should start to work through them revising the topics that they have already studied.

Year 11 – They have finished all teaching and should continue to work through the revision guide that was issued to them as well as the additional revision booklet that has exam preparation questions

Year 12 – On SharePoint they can access information mats that will help them to fill out the Napier workbooks on the links. We will also add PowerPoints to help, they will have print outs of their most recent topic. There are also exam questions for students to practice.  YouTube links will also be added.  They should refer to the YouTube links for additional help.

Year 13 – All Napier workbooks are available on SharePoint.  There are also YouTube links to help you with the remaining topics.  We will scan/ print  the most recent topic that we have started teaching and the remainder will be uploaded soon.  They will also have a link  to exam questions.

Core PE Years 7 - 11.

Students should currently be enjoying the sunshine and doing a module of athletics in PE lessons. As this isn’t possible, and athletics often requires specialist equipment we are recommending that students try to undertake as much physical activity as they can. This is not only for physical health but also for mental health benefits. As the government have now lifted restrictions on the amount of outdoor exercise you can do it’s important to keep active.

Any form of cardiovascular exercise would be beneficial to health. This is anything that raises heart rate and breathing rate. This could include activities like walking, jogging, cycling and skipping. Of course continue to abide by social distancing rules to stay safe.

BTEC Year 9

Both Mr Taylors and Mr Pochins group can start to prepare for Component 2 which is their examined unit. On sharepoint / ruler you will find two booklets; one on nutrition and one on sport psychology. Students are to work through these booklets.

BTEC Year 10

Mrs Owens group are to continue working through the nutrition booklets they have been using in lessons. To help their are some powerpoint presentations on sharepoint to help them. If students don't have their booklets at home, they can download another copy off sharepoint. When completed this students can work through the sports psychology booklet which is their final booklet for the component, this can also be found on sharepoint.

Miss Smiths group are to complete their first assignment of component 1 (The Impact of Sport and Activity on the Body Systems). The assignment brief and first chapter of the textbook are available on sharepoint and ruler. 

BTEC Year 11's

To complete any outstanding / incomplete coursework. Work can be emailed directly to Miss Smith / Mr Allen. If any help / support is required please just email. Miss Smith will email students who have recently taken their online test with results once received.

Thinkuknow has published guidance for parents and carers to support children who may be spending more time online at home while they do their schoolwork and socialise with friends. Suggestions to help parents keep children safe online include: chatting to find out how they use online technology and what it means to them; reminding children to report anything worrying, and how they can do this; and setting up or reviewing parental controls.

The Children's Commissioner for England, in association with the privacy law firm Schillings, has produced a digital safety and wellbeing kit for parents and a safety guide for children to help keep children safe and well online during the coronavirus outbreak.

Reading story books is a enjoyable way  to improve your reading skills.

You can enjoy story book in different languages.

You can read picture looks too - they're the best ones!

You can read for yourself or read a book to your younger brothers and sisters.

Here are a number of ways in which the EMAC department is supporting your learning.

The teaching assistant who supports you, will have been sending work out to you. This work has been created, by them,  to help you to continue to develop your English language skills.
Your teaching assistant is always happy to provide extra work for you. 

There are many ways you can continue to improve your English, independently. You can:

Watch TV - this will help you to improve your vocabulary and you will learn new words

Listen to your favourite songs - this will help you to remember new words

Text your friends  - this will  improve your writing skills

Phone your friends - you will be improving your speaking skills

Write a diary - each day you can write down what you did. 

3. You should be completing the homework that all your subject teachers have sent you.

DfE Online educational resources to support children to continue learning at home

The DfE have published a list of online resources that parents, and schools can consider to support children to continue learning at home. The list will be updated over time, and includes a wide range of resources for all ages that schools can consider using as part of their planned curriculum. Schools have already been drawing on existing resources and tools they are familiar with to support children to continue learning at home and should continue to do so.
