History
Entry Requirements
Minimum of 5 grade 5 at GCSE or equivalent with English and maths. Grade 6 in your chosen study subject is preferred.
Course Description
This qualification is linear, meaning that students will sit all examinations at the end of their A level course.
Year 12
The Making of a Superpower: USA, 1865–1920- This looks into the development of the American nation from the end of the US Civil War through to the end of the First World War, focusing on socio-political change and continuity.
The Making of Modern Britain, 1951–1979- This looks at the changes that took place in Britain between 1951 and 1979 to create the Great Britain that we live in today particularly focusing on the roles of Prime Ministers and social changes across the period.
Year 13
The Making of a Superpower: USA, 1865–1975- This extends Year 12 American study by a further 50 years, covering World War Two, the aftermath and Cold War relations.
The Making of Modern Britain, 1951–2007- By developing upon the Year 12 course, this covers detailed analysis of the Prime Ministerial terms of Thatcher, Major and Blair.
Assessment
A level units are assessed at the end of Year 13. Students pick their own personal study topic and use History lesson time to research and complete a project which covers between 100 and 200 years.
