Entry Requirements
Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above or equivalent with English and maths. Grade 6 or equivalent in GCSE Drama is preferred. Students will be expected to perform to an audience as part of the assessment and must be willing to do so. Experience of acting and youth theatre is also an advantage.
Course Description
The course focuses on both the theoretical and practical side of Drama.
Students are taught a wide range of skills and underpinning knowledge to complete both practical and more traditional assessments. These include interpretation of plays for performance, theatre practitioners, analysing live productions and devising work for performance.
Assessment
The course is split into three components with assessments including practical performance, written coursework and a written exam.
Component 1: 40%
- Devised performance based on script extract.
- Response to theatre assessment.
- Written response.
Component 2: 20%
- Group Performance.
- Monologue or duologue performance.
Component 3: 40%
- 2 hour written examination.
- Responding to a production.
- Explaining how to stage a set text.
- Explaining how to create a production concept.

In addition, an A level in Drama can help you blossom into a confident young person with fantastic public speaking skills and the ability to think on your feet. These are skills that every employer looks for, whatever career path you wish to follow.
