BTEC Art & Design (Double)

Entry Requirements

Minimum of 5 A*-C grades / grade 5 (new grading structure) at GCSE or equivalent.  Grade C or equivalent in your chosen study subject is preferred.

Course Description

A 720 hour course, completed over two years; equivalent to two A levels.  The qualification is designed to give learners a technical understanding of graphics. Learners gain knowledge and skills in areas such as typography and illustration to produce vocational projects in graphic design.

  • The Creative Process
  • Materials, Techniques and Process in Art and Design
  • Developing an Art and Design Portfolio
  • Developing and Realising Creative Intentions
  • 3D Design Materials, Techniques and Processes
  • Visual Recording and Communication
  • Critical and Contextual Studies in Art and Design

Assessment

There are 8 units to complete.  Certain units are mandatory whilst others are option based.  Around half of all content is externally assessed, with the remainder taking the form of coursework, which is assessed internally by staff and checked annually by a moderator.

Career Opportunities

The qualification is for learners intending to gain employment in Graphic design, Ceramics designer, Fine artist, Furniture designer, Glass blower/designer, Architect, Press photographer, Printmaker, Product designer, Production designer, theatre/television/film, Theatre manager, Web designer possibly after further study in higher education. The qualification is usually studied over two years alongside additional qualifications.
