Mathematics

Entry Requirements

A minimum of grade 5 (although a grade 6 or above is desirable) in GCSE mathematics and five GCSEs at grade 5 or above including English.  A booklet of work containing essential skills is available for students to help ease the transition from GCSE to A level will be provided, and it is expected to be completed for those who achieve a grade 5 or 6 at GCSE in mathematics.

Course Description    

There are three main areas of study:

  • Pure Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Mechanics

A full set of workbooks will be provided to support students and act as revision materials.

Assessment

Whilst some students may wish to take the AS level at the end of Year 12, the vast majority of students will continue onto the full A level at the end of the second year of study for formal examination in June 2019.

A level Mathematics complements qualifications in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Pure Sciences. It is also a considered a good option for Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science.
