Information Technology

Students will follow OCR Level 2 Cambridge National Certificate in ICT or Edexcel GCSE ICT.

Students will begin the course in Year 9 and will complete it over a three year period. The examination element of the course will be completed in Year 10.

ICT is an essential part of Academy life and is an essential skill when entering higher education or employment. The course allows students to develop transferable skills which will be of great benefit to their future.

OCR Level 2 Cambridge Nationals

The course is equivalent to 1 GCSE qualification where students will develop their skills to produce solutions for given problems. Students will also develop their understanding of ICT within the business world, health and safety, and legal and ethical issues surrounding the use of ICT.

Students will complete 2 compulsory units and 2 optional units during the three years of study.

Progression

The course offers direct progression to the Level 3 OCR Cambridge Technical qualification which is respected by universities and employers, therefore providing students with successful progression opportunities.

Course Content

Unit 1 – Understanding Computer Systems

Unit 2 – Using ICT to Create Business Solutions

The further 2 units will be chosen based upon students’ interests and skills in the subject

Assessment

The course is comprised of one examination unit which is externally assessed and 3 coursework units.  The coursework units will be completed and assessed throughout the 3 year study period.
