Increasingly more and more jobs in today’s world are related to the media. A media studies GCSE is an excellent foundation for a future career in TV, publishing (books, magazines, journals) vlogging, website design and content creating to name a few.
Assessment
Component 1: Exploring Media Language, Industries, Audiences and Representation
This is a written exam (1 hour 30 minutes) which accounts for 40% of the grade.
This section focuses on magazines, marketing (film posters), newspapers, or print advertisements, film, newspapers, radio and video games.
Component 2: Understanding Media Forms and Products
This is a written exam (1 hour 30 minute) which accounts for 30% of the grade.
This section assesses the theory and contexts of television and music.
Coursework - Component 3: Creating Media Products
This is a practical assessment which accounts for 30% of the grade. Students will create their own media product (short film) towards a set brief for a target audience.
