Up Front - Joseph Leckie Academy and The Albion Foundation
Students at Joseph Leckie Academy had the opportunity to participate in a well-being programme called ‘Up Front’. This was a differentiated intervention programme with the aim to improve resilience whilst increasing the positive well-being of young individuals.
Sessions took place at the Academy every Friday and were delivered by Positive Well-being Workers from the West Bromwich Albion Foundation. Topics covered included:
- Stress and Anxiety
- Friendship and Communication
- Sleep Hygiene
- Gratitude, joy and happiness
- Mindfulness and Relaxation.
- Self-esteem and self-confidence
Students who participated in the programme also had the opportunity to take part in activities at ‘The Albion Foundation’ before going to watch West Bromwich Albion vs Nottingham Forest match. Students were accompanied to the match by Miss Ravat and Mr Penksik and the students were a credit to the Academy. All students who took part thoroughly enjoyed the experience and for some it was the first time they watched a live match. Analysing the academy data, we have also noticed an overall improvement in both pupil progress and behaviour for the majority of students who participated in the programme.
Following the success of the ‘Up Front’ programme, we have decided to continue the initiative at the Academy and started a similar in-house well-being programme. This is currently being carried out by Dr Gardiner and we will be continuing this next academic year with Year 7 students.
