Term Time Only (Plus 5 INSET Days)

PERMANENT

Required to start as soon as possible Bilingual Teaching Assistant for 27.5 hours per week to work with students on a one to one basis, in small groups and as classroom support within the Communications Faculty. We would welcome applications from candidates with limited experience as well as those who may have worked with children before. We provide excellent support and guidance to successful candidates at all levels of prior experience from a dedicated and experienced team of staff.

The post holders' responsibilities include providing small group or one to one support; general classroom support; the induction of new students into the curriculum to meet the needs of newly arrived students - particularly supporting their language development but also their social and emotional needs. This also includes developing resources and liaising with teaching staff in the development and delivery of a differentiated curriculum to meet the needs of students and then support students in their integration into the curriculum. This is to enable these students to overcome barriers to their learning in basic English concepts and to develop more effective coping strategies, so that they can access the curriculum and engage in wider opportunities to enable them to be more successful.

The Communications Faculty consists of a team of highly experienced teachers as well as two current Teaching Assistants. There is a Head of Faculty, Assistant Head of Faculty, Bi-lingual Lead, Head of MFL, and Key Stage Leaders, all with a wealth of experience to support staff across the Faculty. The Communications Faculty is one of our largest faculties within the Academy and includes Modern Foreign Languages, Media, the Bi-lingual department and whole-school Literacy Co-ordinator. We aim to develop our students’ Literacy skills through various programmes of support and our English Language and Literature results are positive, however we are always striving to further raise attainment in English.

Experience of working with secondary age students (and specific English language subject knowledge) and experience of any literacy interventions would be an advantage. The post holders' responsibilities may also include providing small group or one-to-one support; general classroom support (including the induction of new students into the English curriculum). This also includes developing resources, liaising with teaching staff and delivering a differentiated curriculum to meet the needs of students with low English KS2 scores, or those struggling within the mainstream classroom, and supporting students with their re-integration into the English curriculum.

There are also possibilities and opportunities for our TAs who are able to work during lunchtimes (lunch duties) and/or possibilities after school to extend your hours to work with for example for additional curriculum needs and/or to enhance our enrichment opportunities in a variety of areas such as: Literacy, numeracy, SEMH skills and other subject support beyond the curriculum, as well as social and skills based activities to broaden their experiences and opportunities. This will be based on the needs of the Communications Faculty, EHCP hours for students and wider needs of the Academy. There are excellent opportunities for staff to thrive and develop further at the Academy.
