Teacher of Geography

PERMANENT FULL TIME START SUMMER TERM 2025

(or as soon as possible thereafter)

Salary: MPS/UPS

We are seeking to appoint an excellent classroom practitioner who is an enthusiastic, innovative and engaging teacher of Geography, to join a dynamic and expanding faculty.

Geography currently consists of four teachers, one of who has recently gained a promotion. Geography is taught at Key Stage 3 (2 hours a week) At Key Stage 4 (Year 9) all students have to choose either Geography or History (or they can choose both) as a Humanities subject and so there are a significant number of students who opt for Geography at GCSE (AQA). We also offer A Level Geography (AQA) so there are opportunities to teach Post 16.

Geography is part of the Health and Environment Faculty, with a wealth of leadership experience and wide range of staff within the team. This an ideal time to join and contribute to the development of the faculty ethos, and a chance to grow and develop under this faculty and contribute to the development of the wider curriculum.

We would welcome applications from teachers early in their careers, including PGCE students through to experienced staff. The start date will be confirmed on interview based on current role/position or, if you are a current PGCE student, we can delay the start until you qualify.

Our last Ofsted inspection judged the Academy to be good in all categories and for overall effectiveness, with some excellent feedback across all subjects and our Pastoral Care.

Joseph Leckie Academy is a vibrant, exciting and innovative mixed 11-18 Academy being graded as “Good” across all areas by Ofsted (October 2021).  Our ongoing desire to continually look to move forwards means that this is an exciting time to join our successful and welcoming team. The Academy has continually remained as one of the top non-selective secondary schools for progress in Walsall based on validated results and is a great place to work.

We pride ourselves on our high expectations of all learners. This creates a calm learning environment where teachers can teach and students can learn as was clearly supported by the feedback from Ofsted. We offer a highly supportive environment and are committed to ensuring outstanding teaching, behaviour, progress and achievement. Ofsted noted that staff are proud to work in the academy.

We are an expanding academy with numbers growing to well over 1500, and we continue to be over-subscribed at Key Stage 3 and in our large sixth form. This is an exciting time for you to join our team as we continue to expand and grow. The academy has a large sixth form of well over 240 students.
