Congratulations to Miss Simmonds

We are very proud to announce that Miss Simmonds has been awarded the Association of Jamaican Nationals Local Hero Norman Manley Award, for her services to Education and the Community in Jamaica since 1994.
Each year this award is presented to seven Jamaicans who have made a significant contribution to life in the UK. This is also done at a time that Jamaica celebrates its National Heroes Day, as Jamaica has seven national heroes. Each year Jamaicans in Jamaica and around the world are honoured, Miss Simmonds was nominated for this award, and then chosen by the committee.
The reasons for why she was chosen to receive this award are:

Voluntary work in:

Cultural development in Jamaica.
Environmental Protection in Jamaica.
Mentoring of young people in churches in Jamaica and the England.
Active member of the trade union attending conferences and marches.

As well as for several aspects of her Career:

- Senior Leader in Education (SLE) delivering training workshops in
Behaviour Management at the Academy and as part of the Streetly Alliance.
- Pastoral Manager.
- President of Walsall NASWT (2016).

Pictured above is Miss Simmonds with her award & Sir Godfrey Henry Oliver Palmer OBE Professor Emeritus in the School of Life Science at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.

From behalf of all the staff and students at Joseph Leckie Academy, we’d like to say a big congratulations to Miss Simmonds for receiving this award.
